Sixty homosexual men and women aboard a bus on route to a Moldovan Gay Pride rally met some nasty opposition on Sunday, May 11th as nationalist and neo-Nazis surrounded the bus and threaten to kill them as authority leaders stood by and watched, according to the UK Gay News, via Towleroad.
It was a day of Equal Expression gone wrong. The provisions of the European Human Rights Convention, which Moldova signed, was set aside for a few hours as a large mob of angry protesters blocked the bus carrying the Gay Pride participants.
The culprits, members of the neo-fascist movement, “New Right, and legionnaires forced open the door of the bus before violently trying to break the windows.
“Lets get them out and beat them up,” they yelled.
Meanwhile, the police officers were standing at the curb acting like passer-byers as the attack continued.
GenderDoc-M, the country’s LGBT non-governmental organization, had informed local authorities and the Ministry of Internal Affairs for protection as early as April 21. The Mayor on Friday, May 9th said they would not allow the Gay march.
Just like the United States, Moldova has a freedom of assembly clause which guarantees peaceful assembly to everyone, and the protection from police officers to enforce the rights and safety of all protesters.
Independent human rights observers witnessed hatred shouts, such as “Beat them to death and “Don’t let them escape.
