Brazil to Pass Law Criminalizing Homophobia

July 17, 2008 @ 1:58 pm

Brazil to Pass Law Criminalizing HomophobiaBrazilian chief Luiz Inacio Lula da Silva, who won a narrow re-election following a cash-for-votes scandals, has held the First National Conference of Gays, Lesbians, Bisexuals, Transvestites and Transsexuals to condemn the biblical belief that homosexuality is wrong.

The president of Brazil says “opposing” homosexuality makes you a sick person, and he believes such thoughts need to be criminalized.

It wasn’t so long ago when the APA, the American Psychological Association, coined homosexuality as a mental disorder. The APA removed homosexuality from its DSM classification as a mental disorder in 1973 following a lobbying campaign by gay activists

Calling for “the criminalization of homophobia,” Lulu said opposition to homosexuality is “perhaps the most perverse disease impregnated in the human head.”

If the bill was the pass violators will face up to five years in prison.
