Chelsea Clinton Hits UT Arlington [Live Blog]Chelsea, daughter of Democratic candidate, Hillary Clinton will be doing her mom’s debut in Dallas, Texas today at moi’s alma mater at 12:30pm. As of yesterday Barack Obama takes the lead as Hillary licks her wounds Wednesday after her 10th electoral mauling. We’ll try to update on the gay issues on this blog as Q&A are being answered. [ENDED]

So on our rampage to discover the goods, we did our own little Q&A with the normal folks at UTA, and it seems oddly weird that no one is in tune with the GLBT issues and points of view with Hillary Clinton, well weird may not be the word. TYPICAL.

What do you know about Hillary’s view on GLBT issues?
Sophomore, Sarah Elsharif says “[Hillary] isn’t opposed to gay people. She wants to legalize civil union, but at a state level.” When asked about her views on same sex-marriage… “She’s just up for civil unions and civil rights, not legalizing gay marriage” says Jenny Sticken, Junior Education major.

I asked another random lady, what’s your view on GLBT issues?
I believe God doesn’t make mistake… he made them for a reason. I believe in separation of chruch and state, just like I do giving benefits to gay people, but the bozo’s at DC are always at it” says Linda Williams, Arlington resident.

Clinton’s appearance is sponsored by four campus organizations HOMAGE, Pi Sigma Alpha, the Sociology Student Association and Stonewall Democrats.

Scott Jackson, spokesperson for Homage introduces Chelsea.

“An introduction like that and a declaration of love… I couldn’t do any better!” are Chelsea’s first words after a UT Arlington student shouts “We Love You”.

Check out the rest of the coverage after the jump.

How would Senator Clinton get rid of the “don’t ask, don’t tell” and what’s her policy on that?
“She said she would end it. At a time when we’re at ewar and when we are so dependent on men and women in uniform, we shouldn’t be treating them like that.”

What makes your mom different and why should we vote for her? (environment and health insurance)
“I think she is really distinctive, someone who truely has a universal health care plan that will cover every American. I’m really proud that my mom has be standing for universal health care since 1993.”

After the tragic shooting in IL has Hillary change position on Gun Control?
“No… Hillary wants more policing effort to fund its support so that the govt agency can pay for them. One of the many unknown tragedies of this administration.”

How is Hilliary going to make tuition cheaper?
“She’s doing a number of stuff including doubling amount of pell grants available to students… extend tax credit, expanding AmeriCorp., getting rid of the FAFSA, get the government back into direct lending.”

What is senator Hillary Clinton doing about gay marriage? (Asked by Cruz)
“Immediately she can extend benefits, work to change the tax code to remove any hint of discrimination, we acknowledge the need for better hate crime protection for transgender people, and definitely better enforcement for civil rights because they haven’t even enforced civil rights law we have today!”

Speech Blunders
“I was really proud of my mom when she was younger than me”… whoopsy Chelsea, how is that possible? :-)

Despite the Q&A starting 30 minutes late everything was perfectly cool. I had a guy behind me holding a sign that reads “Stop Hilliary, Save America” and then right next to him was an elderly lady saying “Put that sign down you stupid jerk.” Press coverage was pretty amazing… cameras everywhere! So who do you vote for? Photos were courtesy of Marie Padua/UT Arlington.
