Gambian President’s Death Threat Condemned
He is probably a Republican too - Gay rights activists have condemned Gambian President Yahya Jammeh’s threat to behead homosexuals, according to a report by BBC News Africa.
Last week the Gambian President made a public announcement during a political rally that all homosexuals had 24 hours to leave the country are he will kill them all.
The President promised “stricter laws than Iran” on homosexuality and said he would “cut off the head” of any gay person found in The Gambia.
Carey Johnson of the International Gay and Lesbian Human Rights Council said the comments were “disgraceful”.
“What president Jammeh fails to realise is that there are a significant population of Gambians who are gay, and he has no right to ask them to leave,” Mr Johnson said.
In 2008 it is miraculous how much we have failed in terms of progression in Human Rights.
Bob Miskinis, Programs Director of Youth First Texas in Dallas, Texas said “The first thing that I think about when I hear stuff like that is some people think we’ve gone so far as a global society, but obviously we haven’t.”
“Now they are telling homosexuals to get out of the country”, Miskinis said.
“The Gambia is a country of believers… sinful and immoral practices [such] as homosexuality will not be tolerated in this country,” the president told a crowd at a political rally on May 15.
My, My. This comes from the same man whom claimed he found a cure to AIDS last February. His “cure” was a mixture of herbs that patients ate and spread on their bodies. Damn, my momma should have gotten a patent on that cure.
